🌿Educational Field Visit – Shanthigiri Siddha Medical College Students 🌿
Second Professional BSMS and Final Professional BSMS students (28 students), accompanied by three faculty members, participated in an Educational Field Visit to Madurai, Thoothukudi, Sivagangai, and Kanyakumari on 02–03 March 2026 as part of their academic curriculum.
The field visit was organized to provide hands-on learning and practical exposure related to Siddha medicinal resources. During the program, students explored medicinal plants, natural mineral sources, marine products, and pharmaceutical practices used in Siddha medicine through field-based learning activities.
Highlights of the Visit
🌱Herbal Garden Visit – Thenmala
Students observed and identified various medicinal plants used in Siddha medicine and learned about their therapeutic applications.

Pooneeru Collection – Sivagangai
Field exposure was provided for the collection of Pooneeru (Fuller’s Earth/Earth’s Salt) with guidance on traditional collection methods and its importance in Siddha formulations.

Geological / Natural Ores Identification – V.O. Chidambaram College, Thoothukudi
Students studied natural mineral resources and geological ores used in Siddha pharmaceutics.

Pharmacy Visit – Aravindh Herbals
Students learned about:

Marine Product Identification – Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute
Students identified various marine resources used in Siddha medicine and learned about their therapeutic uses.

Marine Product Collection – Kanyakumari
A field trip was conducted for identification and collection of marine products for familiarization and practical learning.
