Reading Day was observed at SSMC on 19^th June 2025, from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM in the College Library Hall. Extempore and reading competitions were held for students, and prizes were awarded to the winners. The keynote address on the Importance of Reading was delivered by the SSGP Nodal Officer Prof. Sheeja. N, followed by felicitations from faculty members who shared insights on cultivating reading habits.

Prof. Dr. Nina Priya, HOD Department of Udal Thathuvam and Curator of Library  highlighted that reading is more enriching than watching electronic media, as it stimulates imagination. She illustrated this by comparing her experience of watching the film adaptation of Ponniyin Selvan with reading the original novel, noting that reading was far more satisfying, allowing her to vividly envision the scenes.
