About Department
“ Siddha Principles of social and preventive medicine” highlights the basic principles of hygiene and Siddha aspects of preventive medicine that were in practice from olden days.
Siddha system does not consider preventive and curative aspects separately. According to saint “Thiruvalluvar”, the disease will never approach to those who knew the cause of diseases and avoid the same in order to protect the body.
This subject guides the students to understand the land structure according to its nature and habitation of the people with well established town planning on the basic of “Vaasthu” and waste management.
It endorses the students to follow the proper regularities and habits with the suitable seasonal dietary regimen, that should balance the three humours (Vaatha, Pitha and Kapha). This subject also deals with incompatibility of food materials.
According to our ancestors, mere preventive measures alone are not enough to be free from diseases but the virtuous deeds and good conduct and character are also the important criteria for healthy longevity. Hence subject depth and its coverage of vast aspects.
