On 30th November 2024, a group of students and Faculties from santhigiri siddha medical college visited the SINDRP Sureksha Neyyatinkara as part of the World AIDS Day Programme, aimed at understanding the activities of the Sureksha project under the Kerala State AIDS Control Society. The program focuses on reducing the transmission of HIV among high-risk groups, including female sex workers, MSMs, injecting drug users, transgenders, and bridge populations such as migrants and long-distance truckers, through lifestyle modifications and safer practices. During an interactive session, students engaged with the staff and volunteers, learning about how target groups are identified, diagnosed, treated, and supported. They also discussed the condition of children affected by HIV and the educational and social benefits available to them. In support of these children, the students raised funds and donated study materials. The visit provided the students with a deeper understanding of HIV transmission routes, treatment methods, and the challenges faced by HIV-affected individuals and their families, as well as the government programs aimed at supporting them.
