Gunapadam marunthiyal deals with the detailed study of pharmacological properties of herbs,metals & minerals and animal products.It includes the identification, classification ,Physical and chemical properties, purification and toxicity of the raw drugs.Classification is mainly based on taste, property, potency,post digestive transformation and pharmacological action of the drugs.Purification of drugs play an important role in pharmacology,raw drugs are subjected to purification before they are added in the preparation of medicines.Purification helps in detoxification and enhancing the bio-availability of the drug.Qualitative and quantitative analysis of raw drugs helps in the identification of active principles of the drug. We have well equipped lab\u00a0 with suitable instruments for purification of raw drugs\u00a0 and separate lab for qualitative and quantitative analysis and we have above 200 specimens of metals & minerals.,herbs and animal origin drugs for identification.We also guide students to do medicines with proper purification and do research works based on their curriculum.<\/p>\n

Maruthuva Thavara Iyal is an integral part of Gunapadam Marunthiyal as the subject emphasizes on Taxonomical studies and Identification, Pharmacological and Phytochemical studies of medicinal plants. Santhigiri Siddha Medical College also harbors a vast herbal garden in which around 400 species of plants including many rare and endangered plants are nurtured.<\/p>\n\n
