Santhigiri Siddha Medical College Observes World No Tobacco Day with Awareness Rally and Flash Mob

Pothencode, May 31:
On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day, students of Santhigiri Siddha Medical College organized a flash mob and anti-tobacco awareness rally at Pothencode to spread awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use and tobacco-related diseases.

The programme was jointly organized by the Students’ Supporting Cell, Red Ribbon Club, and students of the 2022 and 2023 batches. Students, teaching and non-teaching staff, and local residents actively participated in the awareness campaign carrying placards with anti-tobacco messages.

The initiative aimed to educate the public on the serious health risks associated with tobacco consumption and to encourage the development of a tobacco-free society.

The flash mob performance was presented by 2023 batch students T. Bhagwat, V. Pasupatasthiran, V. Tarshini, G. Gurudarshini, Harini Chandramohan, K. Sridevi, S. Yuga, and S. Gowri.

Following the flash mob, an awareness rally was conducted from Pothencode Town to Rajakumari Shopping Centre with enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members of the 2022 and 2023 batches.

The gathering was addressed by:

  • V. Ranjitha, SSGP Convener and Professor of Medicinal Botany, Department of Gunapatam Marunthial
  • N. Sheeja, Red Ribbon Club Head and Professor of Biochemistry, Department of Udaltattvam

Among the dignitaries present were:

  • Dr. T. Selvi, Assistant Professor, Department of Gunapatam Marunthial

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by M.S. Ramya, representative of the 2022 batch.
