🌿 Govt. Siddha Medical College, Chennai Students Visit Santhigiri Siddha Medical College, Hospital & Herbal Garden 🌿
On 25th February 2026 (Wednesday), the final professional B.S.M.S. students of Government Siddha Medical College, Chennai undertook an educational visit to Santhigiri Siddha Medical College, Hospital & Herbal Garden, functioning under Santhigiri Ashram, as part of the partial fulfillment of their curricular requirements.
A team of fifty (50) students, comprising both boys and girls, participated in the visit, accompanied by five faculty members.
Academic Session
The visit commenced with an academic session held at the College Auditorium. The session was conducted by Dr. Prakash S. L., Associate Professor, Department of Gunapadam Marunthiyal, who delivered an informative lecture highlighting key aspects of Siddha pharmacology and traditional medicinal preparations. The session strengthened the students’ theoretical understanding and encouraged academic interaction.
Visit to the Herbal Garden
Following the academic session, the students visited the Herbal Garden of the institution. Prof. Renjitha V., Faculty, Department of Gunapadam Marunthiyal (Maruthuvathavaraviyal), explained the specialties and unique features of numerous medicinal plants cultivated within the campus.
Through direct observation, touch, and interaction with the plants, they gained valuable practical knowledge and enhanced their understanding of medicinal botany in the Siddha system.
Hospital Visit
Subsequently, the students visited the Siddha Medical College Hospital. Dr. T. Murugavel, Associate Professor, Department of Aruvai, guided them through various therapeutic procedures and traditional treatment methods practiced under the Siddha system. The visit provided meaningful clinical exposure and insight into the practical application of Siddha medicine in patient care.
Overall, the educational visit was highly informative and enriching, offering students academic insight, practical botanical knowledge, and clinical exposure to traditional Siddha medical practices.
